Brewed by the Desnoes and Gedes Company (D&G), Red Stripe was first brewed in 1928 as an ale. In 1938 D&G changed the recipe of Red Stripe to make it a lager, this same recipe is in use today. In 1970 D&G became a public company and by 1993 was taken over by Guinness Brewing Worldwide who went on to market Red Stripe internationally.
